Bag size is not decided by weight alone. The same 500g product can need very different pouch dimensions depending on density, shape, headspace, and how the bag is filled or packed.

Film Thickness Will Affect Your Packaging Performance
Film thickness affects how your pouch stands, seals, runs on filling equipment, and survives handling.
A thicker film can improve stiffness, puncture resistance, and transport durability, especially for heavy products, frozen food, sharp contents, or export packaging. But higher gauge also increases material cost and may make the bag harder to open, fold, or seal on automatic lines.
The right thickness should match your product weight, bag size, filling method, and shipping conditions — not simply be made thicker for safety.

Filling Equipment and Production Conditions
Your bag size and film thickness need to work with your filling equipment, not just your product weight.
For automated packing lines, small differences in film width, pouch depth, opening performance, and seal area can affect filling speed and sealing stability. A bag that looks fine on paper may still run poorly if it does not match the machine format.
Seal jaw width is also important. It decides the minimum sealing area and reduces the usable bag height. If this is not checked before artwork and plate making, the finished bag may hold less product than expected or seal in the wrong position.
That is why production conditions should be confirmed early — especially for form-fill-seal film, pre-made pouches, zipper bags, and stand-up pouches used on automatic or semi-automatic lines.

Factors That Drive Size and Thickness Decisions

Powders and granules often settle after filling, so the bag usually needs enough width and headspace for even distribution. Fine powders may also need space for air release. For most dry powders, 80–120 microns can work, but heavier or abrasive powders may need a stronger laminate.

This is where proportions matter more than most buyers expect. A bag too wide relative to the fill level can have liquid sitting in the seal zone during sealing — which causes seal failure. Getting the width-to-fill ratio right is more critical here than for dry products, and it’s one of the first things we check.
